Day 17: Remembering Dad, part 2

Once upon a time, my dad was skinny. And he had hair!

He worked with computers since the dawn of time. Or at least, the early 60's. Whichever came second. I remember when he worked for McGraw Hill in the 80's. They had super fancy tape drives. My brother and I were totally impressed with the big mainframes that lined the room. The raised floors with the air conditioning underneath were totally badass, too.

My dad's many hobbies included photography...

Gardening, especially when it came to roses...

Fishing...

And magic tricks...

He enjoyed a good stogie...

...Good food...

...And a good drink, too.

He loved my mom...

...and later, after my parents divorced, he loved my stepmom, too...

Of course, he loved my brothers and me..

And he loved being a Granddad, too!

When I got married, my dad (and stepdad) walked me down the isle.

Towards the end, when he had a hard time getting around, he liked to watch the goings-on in the park behind his house.

When we brought his ashes up to the family's summer house, we scattered half of them around the property, and then placed the other in a permanent urn. We knew how much he liked watching the river go by, so we gave him a good view.

Rest in peace, Dad. I wish you were here to see how big your grandkid is getting, and how much his smile looks like yours.
