| Buzz Lightyears to the rescue! |
My son has a little bit of a Toy Story obsession. OK, a big freaking huge Toy Story obsession. We have all 3 movies, and my MIL has the Buzz Lightyear cartoon over at her house for when he comes over. The movies are watched almost daily. The Small Human practically quoted the first one in its entirety around an hour ago. We have almost all the good guys in our toy collection, except for Jessie. Have you seen the Jessie doll? Holy crap, is she annoying! Who wants a doll that does nothing but yodel and scream?
Anyway, the Small Human got his first Buzz on Easter last year. Buzz lasted for an entire 12 hours before my son dropped him and managed to break the toy's right arm. Several days later, I replaced him with a new Buzz. That one lasted an entire 3 days, before the left arm popped off. The wings tend to fall off, too, sending my son into a fit of rage because Buzz won't do his bidding. Sigh. It's not that my son is that rough with his toys, it's that the toy is a piece of crap. My FIL managed to reattach the arm a few more times before we finally gave up. So Buzz has one arm. And it's okay! Because in the first Toy Story movie, Buzz at one point only has one arm, too.
Well, several months later, my MIL found another Buzz in the thrift store. This one's wings stay on, and so do his arms. Why? Because he's from the first or second Toy Story movie, and thus was made a good 15 years ago. He's a much better quality toy. With the exception of the helmet, he's still got all his parts. For the photo, I managed to find the helmet and reattach it.
You know damn well that Disney picked the names Woody and Buzz on purpose. They knew that little boys all over the world would shout, "I got a Woody! I got a Buzz!"
Thankfully, the Small Human's Woody hasn't been broken.
